A recent conversation on r/Leftyguitarists felt like a thank-you note from the left-handed guitar community. The July 21, 2026 thread, “Southpaw Guitars in Houston,” started with a simple heads-up from u/scooter_atx: “Since I've never seen them mentioned here, wanted to make sure folks were aware of Southpaw Guitars in Houston. Yes, they ship. Big advocates for the leftie guitar community.”
By the time the discussion had grown to 24 comments, it had earned 32 upvotes, with 94% of voters giving it a positive response. We’re grateful to everyone who shared a memory, a kind word, or a practical question. More than anything, the thread reminded us why a left handed guitar store can mean something different to left-handed players: for once, the instruments are already set up for the way you play.
“I nearly cried”
For many lefties, walking into a typical music shop can mean scanning a wall of right-handed guitars and hoping to find one instrument to try. The experience in a dedicated left handed guitar shop is different. You can look around, pick up instruments, and compare options without first asking whether there’s anything made for you.
u/Pouakai76 put that feeling into words: “Every lefty needs to visit at least once. I nearly cried. This must be what every righty feels like when they walk into any guitar center. Wall to wall guitars of every kind you can pick up and play.”
And u/prstele01 replied: “Same. It was very emotional.”
Those comments stayed with us. We don’t take for granted what it means to see a room full of left-handed guitars, basses, and other instruments. Our Lefty Guitars Only collection is also online, for players who can’t make the trip to Houston or who want to browse from home.

A place to find your next guitar, and try it in person
A guitar can look right in a photo and still feel different in your hands. That’s why the chance to pick up an instrument matters. You can get a feel for its size, balance, and neck, and talk through your options with people who understand the left-handed market.
One commenter, u/Regrettably_Southpaw, said they had driven down from Texarkana several times and called it an “amazing place.” u/MaestroDon shared that they stop by whenever they’re in Houston “just to browse and drool.” And u/Ok-Literature5566 visited while in town for Metallica and described the shop as a candy store.
We’re glad the showroom has become a stop for lefties who are nearby, passing through town, or making a longer trip. If you’re planning a visit, our Houston showroom and location page has the address and current store hours. We’re at 5813 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, Texas.
The showroom is a good place to start whether you’re choosing your first instrument or you’ve played for years. You can browse left-handed electric guitars, left-handed acoustics, and left-handed basses.
Stories that stretch across decades
The thread also brought back memories of instruments bought over the years. u/joc1701 grew up in Houston and remembered buying a ’77 Fender Precision Bass in the early 1980s. Their most recent purchase was a ’13 Gibson Thunderbird.
That’s a lot of music and history between two basses. It’s also a reminder that left-handed players aren’t only looking for a first guitar. Some are searching for a particular sound, a rare instrument, or the next addition to a collection.
Southpaw Guitars has served left-handed musicians for more than 46 years. Our vintage left-handed guitar collection reflects one part of that work. Vintage lefties can be hard to find, so we’re pleased when one makes its way to a player who has been looking for it.

The shop is here for players who can’t visit, too
Not everyone can travel to Houston, and the Reddit comments made clear that an in-person visit isn’t required to find a guitar here.
u/Bdsaz said they had bought six guitars from Jimmy over the years without ever visiting in person, adding: “He and his staff always go above and beyond.” We appreciate that trust. Buying an instrument from a distance can bring up plenty of questions, and our team is glad to help with the details before you decide.
u/echxchambers shared that they bought an SG at Southpaw and that it’s their number one guitar. It means a lot to hear that an instrument found here has become part of someone’s everyday playing.
Yes, we ship. If you’re outside the United States, contact us with your location and the instrument you’re interested in so we can discuss international shipping options and details. To start browsing, head to the Lefty Guitars Only collection, where you can see current listings and availability.
Trades and helpful conversations
The thread also raised practical questions about trade-ins. Yes, trade-ins are welcome. Commenters described the offers they received as fair, and we’re glad that experience came through in the conversation.
Every trade depends on the instrument and its condition, so the best next step is to get in touch with details about what you have. A few clear photos and information about the model and condition can help start the conversation. We’ll talk through the instrument and what may be possible.
A welcoming shop isn’t only about what’s on the wall. It’s also about being able to ask a question, get a straightforward answer, and feel like your needs as a left-handed player are understood. We’re grateful that people in the thread took time to mention that kind of service.
A community bigger than one shop
u/Candid-Ad4262 wrote that there are really only two true lefty shops: Southpaw and Jerry’s Lefty Guitars. We appreciate the recognition, and we’re glad left-handed players have dedicated places to explore instruments and connect with people who understand the search. Every good resource for lefties matters.
We also loved seeing the simple local endorsement from u/Dordbird: “Great place!” Short and sweet, and much appreciated.
To everyone who has visited, ordered online, traded in an instrument, recommended us, or shared their story on Reddit: thank you. We’re a specialized shop, but the reason we’re here is simple. Left-handed players deserve instruments that feel made for them, and help from people who take that seriously.
If you’re in Houston, we’d be happy to welcome you to the showroom. If you’re shopping from somewhere else, you can browse the electric, acoustic, bass, and vintage collections online.
Thanks for making Southpaw part of the lefty community. We’re glad you found us, and we’ll keep the door open and the guitars ready.
