Southpaw Guitars Reviews
Dave Hunt: We made the trip from Idaho to Houston to visit friends, but visiting Southpaw guitars was definitely in the plans. What a wonderful place! The staff was very attentive. The gentleman (Omar, I believe) working with me asked questions about what I liked and didn't like, and gave good professional answers to all my questions I had about the gear. He was very knowledgeable.
I played a bunch of guitars, and did not feel rushed or encroached upon as I worked my way through them. When it came time to purchase, Jim made sure it was a painless process, and my new guitars were shipped off to Idaho.
Being a lefty, most of my previous purchases have been online, as most guitar stores seem to have 0-2 lefties on hand. This visit really impressed upon me how there's no substitute for playing the individual guitars. I couldn't believe how some guitars of the same brand and model played so differently! If you're a lefty, and find yourself in Houston, absolutely make it a point to stop in and explore the store and the instruments. Next time I'm in town I'll be coming back - maybe for that hummingbird this time!
John Riggi: An awesome instrument-acquisition! As a left-handed musician, to see left-handed instruments on every wall that were available for purchase was both exciting and gratifying. I’ve been a customer of Jim Duncan’s Southpaw Guitars since 2004 and have never been disappointed. Just visited Jim (owner) and Omar (manager) and made a purchase of four exquisite instruments. The pricing, level of service and professionalism of the staff was exemplary. Well done Jim and Omar!
Anthony Tadaro: Great service and selection. Ended up buying an American professional II tele, and I am very happy with everything.
John Scott: If you're a left handed guitarist in Houston you don't know how lucky you are!
I had to go down to Texas from Denver and knew I could not be in that state without going to Houston and visiting Southpaw.
Truly an amazing place. Such a cool environment with so many left-handed guitars. It's breath-taking for a lefty.
The people there are nothing short of amazing. They told me that I was welcome to grab ANY guitar in the store and try it out. So I did! I don't know how many hours I was there, but it was more than a few. They never made me feel anything but welcome. The only difficult part was picking one!
I ended up getting a Fender American original 50s Strat. And I got a crazy good deal on it. Thank you guys for such a great experience!!!!!
CANNOT RECOMMEND IT ENOUGH!!
Joseph Feinstein: I’ve purchased at least 7 guitars from southpaw over the years. They have an amazing selection and always look after their customers. You don’t have to worry shopping with these guys. As a 25 year ecommerce business owner, I don’t trust everyone. But I definitely trust the team at Southpaw.
Jamal Kareem: I’m so lucky to live in a city where the biggest and best left handed guitar shop is. Jim and Omar are great a help in providing the best selection of lefty guitars!
Assmuer: Great shop and great folks. Really one of the first lefty guitar shops. Just bought a Gibson LP Modern. Fast shipping and communication. I try them first due to their lefty support. Never been disappointed. Fun walking into a store and everything is left handed.
Randall Stamper: I have done business with Omar and his team several times. I live in Richmond, Virginia, but lefties are few and far between at local shops. I'm not afraid of buying a new one as long as the shipping procedures and protocols are tight. Southpaw doesn't cut any corners at all. But, recently, they had a 1980 Martin D35 that I was interested in, but was scared to commit to without playing it, seeing it, inspecting it. It's hard enough to commit to a brand new guitar without having it in your hands for a little while first. Committing to something that old (and expensive) without being able to give it a close inspection/tryout was daunting. I spoke with Omar several times about it over a couple weeks. He was patient, very responsive, sent me several additional pictures, described and detailed the condition of the guitar, and assured me that if I was dissatisfied when it arrived, he would work with me. Got it about 2 weeks ago. Took it to my local shop for assessment and setup. Everything was exactly as Omar described, and it is a freaking beast. You can trust Southpaw to shoot you straight and to deliver incredible customer service.
I have read that only about 12-15 percent of the world's population is left-handed. It's definitely a right-handed world. Southpaw, Omar, and his team are a trustworthy and welcome oasis for those of us in our right minds. I could not recommend them more highly, and they have my business for the rest of my playing days.
Chris Ramirez: Jimmy Duncan is a good man he knew my father in the late eighties always gave us great prices and service. I met him at the Beatle mania fest a great memory in my life. And when I told my mother passed away I could tell he felt my pain. This man is incredible and I will never forget him...thanks sir I am glad my father and you were friends
